Post Partum!!!

I had heard of postpartum depression, but was never prepared for what was in store for me.
For a person who wants to sleep undisturbed once I hit the bed, Reuben made sure I shed that habit within the first 2 weeks. Each time he woke up, he made sure the entire apartment complex knew that through his voice! The first 2 or 3 days, we were fully worried if the baby has some pain or something. then we realized that this guy starts of at the highest frequency possible when he was not happy!  He was up every 1 hour or so, which made me finally wonder, "Does this guy ever sleep!". Poor My Mom! She used to walk around the whole house carrying a screaming baby all through the night! We had the house-keeping ladies in the complex visiting us asking why the baby is screaming! We breathed a sigh of relief when we finally reached Trivandrum. There wont be any more apartment complex to wake up.
The postpartum complications that arose, did a hell of a job in keeping us totally occupied with hospital visits all through the first three months. I am thankful to God that these visits were for me and not for the new born.
These initial days were the days when I realized that though now I have got a baby myself, I still am a baby for my parents. I could see the tension in my mother's eyes right from when I said "Mommy I think its time for us to rush to the hospital. I could see the pain reflecting in her face for every small wince right till the moment I finally said "Mommy I am all fine now!. As usual Papa took the strong pillar stand, supporting us all through the difficult times. Though this period was very painful and tiring , we managed to keep our cool and sometimes laugh at our fate, thanks to the greatest support I got from them.
What was more stressful was the doubts and questions. Answering them diplomatically was even more difficult!
There were times when I felt totally depressed and disheartened. What kept me going during all these times was the instant smile I got when I looked at Reuben!

Oh God! I am Out!

May 27, 2012 3:31pm

Reuben makes his first entry into this world.

- No I don't remember hearing his first cry. I guess the anaesthesia had me sedated at that time.

- What I remember and cherish - In the OT doc says "Linsuchechi, Congrats! Its a baby boy! and the nurse brings him to me. I smiled looking at his tiny little face, and instantly a kiss was dropped! When they were wheeling me out of the OT, I swear I was wondering "What happened to me!". A mother was born in me, the moment I saw his face.

- What I will never forget! - in the OT, they are stitching me up, I could hear my doc say "I was happy with her BP  throughout". Suddenly there is a high frequency shriek! The docs all turn around to the nurse handling Reuben asking what's wrong what happened! There was a momentary pause (the only thing I can imagine is the face of a bewildered nurse), followed by a roaring laughter from all the people present in the OT, when they realized that it was nothing but a declaration "Oh God, I am out!" by Reuben.

The nine month long wait!

The two lines!

Yes!
It gives a sudden happy feeling when you find the 2 lines you are looking for.
Then the wait started for our doc appointment to confirm.  The words "Congrats Linsu! You are pregnant" was worth the whole 2 weeks of wait!

The 11/11/11 scare!

When many ladies around the world were trying hard to get their babies delivered on 11/11/11, ours thought it was time! Thankfully God showed the red flag to him and said "Dude! You are just 8 weeks old, you still have to stay for another 30 weeks. So hang in there!" Though now we laugh about it and the coincidence of the date, it really was a scary experience!

The first flutter of a heartbeat

The first time I heard my baby's heartbeat is when I really believed I was pregnant, and that the baby is fine inside me. from then on I always looked forward for the checkup dates, when I could hear it again!

Say No to Junk!

Something which was hard for me, and harder for Ratish. No to Dominos, KFC and McDs. Ratish just reminded me of a day when we could not hold it anymore and went ahead ordered Dominos! I managed to say "You have the pizza, I will have just the garlic bread! :(" Thankfully my good friends(senior moms) saved me.  one said she could hardly wait for 3months and then she gave in to McDs. Another said, she was careful for the first kid, he ended up being choosy about food, whereas for her second one she ate whatever she could, and the baby girl eats anything that is given to her! Do we need any more prompts to go back and indulge on Dominos! I would say anything is fine as long as you don't overindulge!

The Kicks and the Pulls

With no symptoms of pregnancy, like morning sickness, dizziness and others,my first real feel of the little one inside me was the kicks. The kicks started at 11 in the night regularly and kept going on like till 3 early morning. Morning times were his sleep times, except whenever I called for a team meeting in office!

Am I Ready??

The main worry I had as a mom-to-be was "am I going to be at least ok handling motherhood". I was never a baby person - doesn't mean i don't like babies, well I love them when they are in other's hands.... never handled a baby younger than 8 months. I was damn scared to take babies :)

Girl or Boy!

Well! this question was always there in our mind all thru the nine months. Though we said we don't have any such specific needs, I secretly wished for a boy! Now any girl who have a wonderful elder brother as I have, would always wish for a son as her fist born, an elder brother to her younger kid(s).Well! God heard my secret prayers :)

The Name Game

The name hunt started somewhere in the 7th month or so. We wanted  a name from the bible, a name that's new in our family. Ratish came up with the  girl name first, and gave the boy name choice to me!  I came up with one name, but was not fully happy with it. then one day while watching Ocean's Eleven for the nth time, we ask each other almost at the same time "How about Reuben?!". we had 2 options for the boys name. It was fixed may be a week before the big day!. My Mom loved the name Reuben and was not so happy with the other option :) so Reuben it is!

Inception

The idea of a blog for the baby was planted in me by my good friend Lachu, long back when I was carrying. It remained an idea until I started  telling Ratish that we need to record the adventures of our son somewhere along with the fotos/videos.
Now that he is completing 6 months soon, I guess its high time I started blogging! So here we go!!
